Darcy LaFountain is a graduate of the University of Miami with a B.B.A. degree, cum laude in International Finance and Marketing. At U of M, she was a member of Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa and received the Thomas E. Flynn Award to the Outstanding Student of International Business. She has extensive business management experience, in addition to being a licensed Realtor since 1987. Darcy became a licensed Realtor in Memphis, Tennessee. She earned the GRI (Graduate, Realtor's Institute) designation in 1992. In 2004, Ms. LaFountain moved to Palm Beach County and became a licensed Florida Realtor.
Darcy has extensive experience in strategic planning, marketing, policy and operations. She joined Burger King Corporation in Marketing Research in Miami, then handled regional marketing in California. She relocated to Memphis, Tennessee with Holiday Inns, Inc. as Manager of National Promotions for U.S. hotels and was later promoted to Director, Lodging & Travel Planning for the Holiday Inns, Inc. Corporate Division. She was Vice President of Communications & Planning for Medshares, a national home health care company, also in Memphis, Tennessee. With an emphasis on child advocacy, Darcy has spent many years in community service.
She is currently a Guardian ad Litem for Palm Beach County. She has served on numerous boards, including Shelby County Foster Care Review, Bethany Home, Family Link, The American Cancer Society and The University Club in Memphis. She was honored as "One of Fifty Women Who Make a Difference" in Memphis in 1998 and was selected as a Community Hero to carry the Olympic Torch in 1996.
Darcy is an avid competitive athlete in running and swimming. Her running career has spanned over 30 years, completing hundreds of 5k and 10k races and 8 marathons, including the prestigious Boston Marathon. Her swimming accomplishments include 5 US Masters National Open Water Swimming titles in 1993, 1994, 2005, 2006 and 2007. She was a YMCA National age group record holder in the 1650 event (mile). Darcy achieved All American in the Aquathlon (run, swim, run) in 2008. Her other passions are travel and baking.
Darcy has one son, Lee, who graduated from Duke University in 2007. Lee is a civilian employee with the Navy and earned his Masters degree in Public Policy at Georgetown University in 2011. Lee and his wife live in downtown Charlotte, NC.
